Statement from Kamloops MLAs on Wildfire Threat

Kamloops BC Liberal MLAs Todd Stone and Peter Milobar join neighbours in expressing huge gratitude to the BC Wildfire Service for their massive efforts to contain a fire that threatened Kamloops yesterday.

“With significant wind gusts, the fire spread incredibly fast and very quickly became a major threat,” said Peter Milobar, MLA for Kamloops – North Thompson. “Were it not for the quick actions of fire fighters, homes may have been lost.”

It is key that as we enjoy the weather during the summer, we remember to be aware of the risks of fires during the dry season.

“After the devastating wildfires of last year, we need to be sure that we do all we can to mitigate the risks,” said Todd Stone, MLA for Kamloops – South Thompson. “We need to be aware of our surroundings and our actions so that we do not inadvertently add to tragedy.”

Last year’s wildfire season was the most damaging and costly in our province’s history. Current wildfire activity and dangers can be viewed at  https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/safety/wildfire-status/wildfire-situation
